Reports To: General Manager
Position Summary
The Assistant General Manager (AGM) plays a critical leadership role in supporting the General Manager in the day-to-day operations of the hotel. This position ensures operational excellence, guest satisfaction, financial performance, and team engagement while maintaining full compliance with IHG brand standards, company policies, and local/state regulations.
The AGM serves as the acting General Manager in the absence of the GM and is expected to lead by example, fostering a service-driven culture focused on quality, accountability, and results.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Guest Experience
- Assist the General Manager in overseeing daily hotel operations across all departments, including Front Office, Housekeeping, Food & Beverage (if applicable), Engineering, and Sales.
- Ensure exceptional guest service and prompt resolution of guest concerns, complaints, and service recovery situations.
- Monitor guest satisfaction scores (GSS), reviews, and brand audits; implement action plans to drive continuous improvement.
- Ensure full compliance with IHG brand standards, SOPs, safety, and cleanliness expectations.
Leadership & Team Management
- Support hiring, onboarding, training, scheduling, and performance management of hotel associates.
- Lead, coach, and motivate department heads and supervisors to achieve operational and service goals.
- Enforce company policies, labor standards, and HR practices consistently and professionally.
- Promote a positive, inclusive, and accountable workplace culture.
Financial & Administrative Oversight
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and controlling labor and operating expenses.
- Monitor payroll, scheduling efficiency, overtime, and productivity metrics.
- Review daily reports, P&L statements, and operational KPIs to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
- Ensure proper cash handling, banking procedures, and internal controls are followed.
Sales, Revenue & Community Engagement
- Support sales and revenue initiatives, including group business, local accounts, and occupancy-driven strategies.
- Collaborate with the Sales team on client relations, site visits, and local outreach.
- Represent the hotel professionally within the local community and business network as needed.
Safety, Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, fire/life safety, health department regulations, and company risk management protocols.
- Assist in incident reporting, investigations, and corrective action plans.
- Maintain readiness for brand inspections, audits, and local authority visits.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum 3–5 years of hotel management experience, preferably in a full-service or select-service branded hotel.
- Prior experience as an Assistant General Manager, Operations Manager, Rooms Manager, or similar leadership role preferred.
- Strong knowledge of hotel operations, labor management, and guest service standards.
- Experience working with branded standards (IHG experience preferred).
- Proven leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends, holidays, and evenings as required.
- Proficiency with hotel systems (PMS, POS, scheduling, and reporting tools).
- High school diploma or equivalent required; hospitality or business degree preferred.
Physical & Work Environment
- Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the property for extended periods.
- Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
- Fast-paced hospitality environment with frequent guest and associate interaction.
