Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama and four years of progressively responsible clerical accounting experience; OR a bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama and three years of progressively responsible clerical accounting experience. Directly related experience may substitute on a year for year basis for the required education.

Preferred Qualifications

Related experience in an academic setting is highly preferred. Experience with Banner and Microsoft Office is preferred. Certification as a Research Administrator is preferred.

Job Description Summary

The University of South Alabama’s College of Medicine Office of Research is seeking to hire a Financial Operations Specialist II. Interested candidates should apply to be considered.

Essential Functions

  • Processes billing from College of Medicine ( COM ) core service centers.
  • Tracks expenses and revenue for each core FOAPAL .
  • Purchases equipment and supplies for core facilities.
  • Advises on annual budgets for cores.
  • Prepares utilization reports per core FOAPAL and reconciles accounts.
  • Processes service and maintenance agreements for cores.
  • Assists with travel for core personnel.
  • Administers HR and payroll documents for core personnel.
  • Tracks core operations using the infinity core management system and generates analytics of core usage and financials.
  • Ensures invoices are issued and payments are received in a timely fashion.
  • Tracks expenses and revenues for the DSS and Charles Baugh seminar funds.
  • Processes reimbursements and honoraria to guest speakers.
  • Monitors and reconciles Office of Research Education and Training ( ORET ) financials.
  • Processes student personnel action forms.
  • Reviews and approves graduate student payroll.
  • Monitors submission of midterm and final grades by faculty.
  • Prepares quarterly and annual reports of all financials under the Office of Research.
  • Provides general administrative support to the Associate Dean for Research and the Assistant Director of ORET .
  • Regular and prompt attendance.
  • Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime hours as required.
  • Related duties as required.
