Responsibilities
The Supply Inventory Technician III for Perioperative Services plays a critical role in maintaining thousands of essential supplies and implants across multiple departments to ensure uninterrupted care for surgical patients. This position supports the Associate Director of Supply Chain by enforcing policies and procedures, upholding compliance standards, and performing duties ethically in alignment with the organization’s values. The technician adheres to hospital policies, including confidentiality, and is expected to maintain regular and prompt attendance, work assigned schedules including overtime and on-call shifts, and assist in orienting new employees. Minimal supervision is required to perform all essential functions, including lifting items up to 50 pounds using proper body mechanics.
As a leader among perioperative supply chain personnel, the technician ensures that all necessary materials are efficiently ordered, delivered, and stocked. They work closely with purchasing to prevent disruptions in operating room supply availability and promptly report any unavoidable issues to the Associate Director and OR leadership. The role involves collaboration with service line coordinators and vendor representatives to audit and verify consigned inventory, as well as inspecting deliveries for accuracy and damage. Incorrect items are returned with appropriate documentation, and supplies are transported using rolling carts weighing up to 250 pounds. The technician serves as a reliable resource for OR staff, leadership, and surgeons, reviewing supply usage and recommending adjustments as needed. They direct workflow to prioritize critical tasks and maintain effective communication through radio, Teams messages, email, and phone. A positive, cooperative attitude is essential, along with a commitment to helping others and enhancing unit performance. The technician completes all mandatory training and education requirements, applies cost-effective practices, and adheres to current infection control and safety standards. Additional responsibilities include participating in assigned committees and contributing to performance improvement initiatives through quality measurement or ICARE processes. The technician is expected to respond to all duties with professionalism and without conflict, demonstrating strong customer service skills with physicians, patients, families, and the healthcare team.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent and three years of clerical experience.
